The Acrylic Fabrication Standards Framework establishes three finish classifications:
• Production Finish
• Display Finish
• Museum Archival Finish
Each classification corresponds to the distance at which cosmetic characteristics may become visible under normal viewing conditions.

The principle is simple:
The closer a fabricated piece is expected to be viewed, the higher the cosmetic fabrication standard required.
Inspection distance refers to the distance at which cosmetic characteristics may become visible under normal viewing conditions.
By defining quality in terms of inspection distance, fabrication expectations can be specified clearly before production begins.

The Inspection Distance Standard establishes three fabrication finish levels corresponding to common viewing distances used in commercial displays, architectural installations, and museum environments.

The Acrylic Fabrication Standards Framework defines three fabrication finish classifications.
These classifications describe acceptable cosmetic characteristics based on inspection distance.
Production Finish
Production Finish represents the standard fabrication quality used for most commercial applications.
Inspection distance: Approximately 4 feet
At this viewing distance, cosmetic characteristics that may be visible during close inspection are typically not noticeable under normal conditions.
Production Finish is appropriate for:
• retail displays
• signage
• product fixtures
• commercial fabrication
• general architectural elements
Acceptable characteristics may include:
• minor micro-bubbles within adhesive joints
• slight variation in flame-polished edges
• cosmetic characteristics visible only during close inspection
These characteristics do not affect structural performance or the appearance of the fabricated piece at normal viewing distance.
Display Finish
Display Finish is used for applications where acrylic components will be viewed more closely and visual presentation becomes more important.
Inspection distance: Approximately 2 feet
At this distance, tighter fabrication control is required to maintain a clean visual appearance.
Display Finish is commonly used for:
• premium retail displays
• branded display programs
• architectural installations
• product presentation fixtures
Fabrication techniques are adjusted to improve cosmetic clarity, particularly in adhesive joints and edge finishing.
Display Finish typically includes:
• improved joint clarity
• more consistent edge finishing
• tighter cosmetic tolerances
Museum Archival Finish
Museum Archival Finish represents the highest cosmetic standard within the Acrylic Fabrication Standards Framework.
Inspection distance: Approximately 1 foot
This level is intended for applications where viewers may closely inspect the fabricated piece.
Museum Archival Finish is commonly used for:
• museum display cases
• archival enclosures
• collector display boxes
• gallery installations
Achieving this level of quality requires additional fabrication attention and inspection.
Museum Archival Finish typically includes:
• extremely high joint clarity
• highly consistent edge polishing
• minimal visible cosmetic variation
This level of fabrication is reserved for applications where visual presentation and optical clarity are critical.
